SUMMER PROGRAMME IN GREEK STUDIES,
ATHENS 2 June -  9 July 2015


The duration of the course is six weeks from 2 June to 9 July 2015 and is directed towards undergraduate, postgraduate students and teaching staff members from departments in fields relative to Greek studies.

The application for participation/scholarship is one and the same.

Applications not accompanied with the necessary supporting documents will not be examined.

The results of the evaluation of the applications by the University of Athens Committee will be sent electronically by 15/5/2015.

Three categories of results will be announced:

  1. Scholarship approved
  2. Participation approved (without scholarship)
  3. Acceptance to the programme with or without scholarship denied

Attendance of lessons is compulsory. All students may participate in the progress test at the end of the programme. However, of the students who have passed the test, ONLY those that have attended at least 80% of the lessons, as indicated by the register of attendance, will be awarded ECTS credits. For all levels the ECTS credit points awarded will be 6. Students of levels 4-6 who have attended at least 50% of the lectures will be awarded 1 extra ECTS point.  

All language classes are free of charge but accommodation and any other living expenses are not paid by the University.

It should be noted that candidates with no knowledge whatsoever of the Greek language will not be accepted.

The programme is divided into various levels which are determined in accordance with the guidelines set by the Council of Europe with further sub-divisions.

After writing a placement test at the beginning of the course, students are placed at the correct level.

LEVELS

LEVELS 1-3: Elementary knowledge of Modern Greek is required

  • Modern Greek Language 

Intensive study of the language with special emphasis on the four language skills

(speaking, writing, listening and reading comprehension)

LEVELS 4-6: Intermediate knowledge of Modern Greek is required

  • Modern Greek Language (advanced level)
  • Modern Greek Literature
  • Modern Greek History
  • Modern Greek Art
  • Lectures on specific topics

SCHOLARSHIPS

In response to the increasing interest in Modern Greek Studies abroad, the University of Athens will be offering scholarships for this year of 500,00 euros each. These scholarships will be awarded to the most qualified applicants, following the approval of the Selection Committee of the University of Athens.

Interested parties are therefore requested to send by 6 March 2015 the following:

  1. Electronic application form (Candidates' details must be filled in, the electronic form found in our webpage www.thyespa.uoa.gr. Once the form is complete and the "Submit application form" button has been pressed, it must be printed out and submitted with all the other documents)
  2. Curriculum Vitae
  3. Two letters of recommendation (in the case of students) or a certification of employment (in the case of teaching staff members)
  4. Photocopy of passport or ID card (for those with E.E. origin)
  5. One photo
