Workshop Post/Moderne Ambivalenzen und Polaritäten
in Zentraleuropa und der Vojvodina
(Universität Novi Sad, Philosophische Fakultät 3.-4. April 2013)

Die Forschungsgesellschaft Moderne/Postmoderne lädt zur Einreichung von Referatsvorschlägen zu folgenden Schwerpunkten für den Workshop in Novi Sad ein:
1) Beiträge zum Forschungsstand zur zentraleuropäischen Moderne, vorrangig unter der Perspektive ihrer Ambivalenzen und Polaritäten anhand von empirischen Fallbeispielen sowie hinsichtlich der Theoriediskussion zu Moderne/Postmoderne;
2) Beiträge zu spezifischen kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Fragestellungen bezüglich der Vojvodina.

Die Ambivalenzen und Polaritäten von Moderne und Postmoderne werden in diesem Workshop im zentraleuropäischen Rahmen sowie im räumlichen Kontext der Vojvodina mit ihrer Hauptstadt Novi Sad untersucht. Aus kulturwissenschaftlicher Perspektive stehen die sprachlich-ethnische und religiös-konfessionelle Vielfalt mit den damit zusammenhängenden Deutungskämpfen, kulturellen Transfer- und Übersetzungsprozessen sowie den über die jeweiligen Grenzen hinaus weisenden Vernetzungen im Mittelpunkt. Diese werden in der (zentraleuropäischen) Moderne generell und spezifisch in der Vojvodina sowohl als produktive Ambivalenzen als auch als konflikthafte Polaritäten – oft im Kontext der Herstellung von kultureller Homogenität – erfahren.

Ein Schwerpunkt der Beiträge umfasst Präsentationen, die unter diesen Perspektiven aktuelle Forschungen zur zentraleuropäischen Moderne reflektieren. Ein weiterer Fokus liegt auf der Vojvodina als von Pluralität und Heterogenität geprägter Region. Diese sind schon in der ambivalenten Zuordenbarkeit der Region erkennbar, die in ihrer historisch-kulturellen Entwicklung sowohl als Teil Zentraleuropas als auch in einem südosteuropäischen Kontext lesbar ist. Die sprachlich-ethnische wie religiöse Vielfalt lassen sich im Spannungsfeld von gelebter Pluralität und polaren, von Gewalt bestimmten Gegensätzen deuten. Novi Sad steht hier als Fallbeispiel für eine Stadt als urbanes Zentrum auf regionaler Ebene und gleichzeitig als Zentrum zweiter Ordnung, im Spannungsfeld der Metropolen Wien, Budapest und Belgrad. Für den Workshop sind daher Beiträge zu diesen Aspekten, aber auch zu potenziellen Vergleichsebenen und theoretisch-konzeptuellen Überlegungen zu Moderne/Postmoderne vorgesehen.

Workshop Post/Modern Ambivalences and Polarities in Central Europe and Vojvodina (University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Philosophy, 3nd – 4th April 2013)

The Forschungsgesellschaft Moderne/Postmoderne (Research Society Modernity/Postmodernity) invites to submit proposals for papers on the key aspects mentioned below for the workshop in Novi Sad:
1) Papers about the state of the art of research on the Central European modernity, primarily with respect to its ambivalences and polarities, that is on empirical case studies or on the theoretical discussion concerning Modernity/Postmodernity.
2) Contributions about specific questions from culture studies and social sciences on Vojvodina.

The workshop explores the ambivalences and polarities of Modernity and Postmodernity in a Central European framework as well as in the spatial context of Vojvodina with its capital Novi Sad. From a culture studies perspective the ethno-linguistic and the religious-confessional diversity with the involved struggles over interpretation and meaning, processes of cultural transfer and translation and their border-crossing interconnectedness are in the centre of attention. In the (Central European) Modernity in general and specifically in Vojvodina these phenomena are experienced both as productive ambivalences and as conflictive polarities – often in the context of the construction of cultural homogeneity.

One focus of the papers is defined by presentations which reflect from this perspective on the current research on the Central European Modernity. Another key aspect will be Vojvodina as region marked by plurality and heterogeneity. These phenomena are visible in the ambivalent relatability of that region which can be interpreted in its historical-cultural development both as part of Central Europe and in a Southeast European context. The ethno-linguistic as well as the religious diversity can be examined as area of conflict between practised plurality and often violent antagonisms. Novi Sad can serve as case study of a city as urban centre on the regional level and as centre of second order interconnected with the metropolises Vienna, Budapest, and Belgrade.

The workshop will comprise input on these aspects but also on comparative case studies and on the theory and concept of Modernity/Postmodernity.
